Lower Suspension Ball Joint

Me again :(

1983 T25 High Top Diesel.

I have to replace the lower suspension ball joint........

Do I need any special tools?
How easy or hard is it?
Will I need to compress the spring?
What problems may i face in doin it myself?

Sorry for so many questions but am next to useless when it comes to this stuff :?

I have just done this and it is a pain. no special tools just dismantle it so you have the stub axel off, hammer out the old one. thats the easy part.
the difficult bit is pressing in the new one.
after speaking to some one they said push it in as far as possible and then reassemble.
The weight of the vehicle will seat it properly. do not do as i did and try hammering it in. I did get it in but I recked the first one and had to buy another.
if you are not sure about this method take it to a local engineering firm and they will press it in for you.

Fanx LHD, I will attempt it this weekend hopefully, Im slowly loosing faith in the so called proffesional garages as they told me it was a major job and quoted me over £200 to do!!!!!!! Think im gonna take a copy of yr reply into them or maybe publish a page on my website and name names lol

Not sure wot i would do without the help of members of 80-90

i fabricated an adaptor to allow the new lower balljoint to be pressd into place i will dig it out and take a pic of it once i made it it pressed in no bother.

Before i did that i had the axles removed the old ball joints out thought i would just ask my lcal vag robber to press the new ones in, no bother for £75 stuff it he was told

top tip - before pushing the new one in take off the rubber boot & re-fit it post assembly. I wouldn't attempt this job without the use of a hydraulic press.
