Re: clutch replacement cost ?
Clutch kit is about £100 iirc from Brickwerks. Total cost fitted on mine aout 18 months ago was around £420 at my local garage. That's on a 2.1 Syncro. It's not a huge job if you have the space and the tools and the time to do it - I didn't, pretty well covered in the wiki I think.
What a long strange trip it's been

Re: clutch replacement cost ?
2wd is only 2hours labour plus clutch kit about £200 provided it all goes smoothly and the garage doing the job actually know what they are doing, syncro is double becuase of prop and engine protection and hassle with petrol starter motor etc..
Re: clutch replacement cost ?
I set a day aside and had time to spare. I had use of a 4 pillar lift and the necessary jacks to support the gearbox when it comes out.
Make sure that you get a new spigot bearing to replace the one in the end of the crankshaft - sods law says it will be mullered if you don't. You may also want to consider changing the gearbox oil while it is out of the van.

Re: clutch replacement cost ?
Yup....around £85.00 for the 3 part clutch and 2 - 3 hours labour at? £45 - £55 an hour....so £200 - £250 all in.

Matt - if you're not looking at DIY, I'm sure that was the sort of price New Malvern at Hove Lagoon quoted me just over a year ago.

Thanks Dan o - its a bit tempting to let a garage do it at that price - especially if they are sure to know what they are doing with t25's.
Im still not sure exactly whats up with the gearchange - just occassionally (3 times in past week of driving) it is a bit stiff going into 1st and reverse - grating the gears like the clutch isnt disengaging - grating into 1st/reverse - then its all fine and sliky smooth !
Sometimes when parked nose downhill and in neutral the gearbox/clutch "grumbles" like a worn clanky bearing noise when in neutral - knackered thrust bearing - or something in the gearbox maybe ?
Drove today and no propbelms or odd noises at all...
Regards and thanks for all replies

Re: clutch replacement cost ?
The rattling noise could be loose clutch drive springs (that's the springs set into the clutch plate itself). In neutral you could try letting the clutch out veeeeeery gently, when the noise may not start. Then if you let out the clutch real quick it may sound all rattly again. Loose drive springs aren't a real problem, just annoying.
1.9D (AEF) pop-top. Aaaaahhhhh........that's better.

Re: clutch replacement cost ?
change the gearbox oil and take a look at the magnet - I'm guessing it will be really heavy with deposits of pinion bearing and in need of tlc, but could be linkage, clutch too

Re: clutch replacement cost ?
Thanks Colin and Aidan for the furthur replys, all helps me
I gave the gearbox an oil change last April/May and tho furry.... not an afro of filings were attached.
All gears selected sweetly on drive home tonight... - I will check the linkage 1st chance I get . - but at moment perfectly driveable
.... would hate to lay out for a new clutch and fit it - only to find its the gearbox -
When it needs to be or gets fixed...... I will post an update, and if any more symptoms present themselves that might help trace it I will be back here for furthur advice - for which I am very grateful. Im hoping to pop along to the Horsham vw meet on saturday and get soe experienced ears to listen to the grumblings
Appreciate the time you have spent giving me your advice
I still love my T25 !
