Hi folks, I just brought a botle of 15-40 oil and got it home and noticed it had an expiration date of 7-10-2010... Is it still OK to use?
I wouldn't of thought oil would go out of date. This looks like a newish bottle, its not dusty like its been hiding at the back of the shelf and it doesn't look like its from the 70's or anything...

Re: Out of date motor oil
It lies underground for millions of years, comes to the surface and then gets an expiry date.

Re: Out of date motor oil
a quote from someone who might know...
'Oil breakdown is caused by sheer, very high pressures, very high temperatures, acids from the combustion process etc. Sitting in a container on the shelf, the only process that could damage an oil is oxidation. There is next to no oxygen in a full container and anyway normal temperatures are way too low for any problem to occur... I can see no reason why an oil should not have a virtually unlimited shelf life.'
Seems that the only possible problem might be if the seal/canister has been opened -
otherwise should be fine..
