I had a problem with reverse on my van, couldn't find it, and was advised to change the oil.
I didn't change the oil as I changed the rear bush on the linkage which sorted out reverse but 6 months later I couldn't get any gears and when I did check the oil there was hardly any in!

Well worth doing if it's not been done in a while and will show any problems with the bits stuck to the magnetic drain plug

Will get it changed

Now I just went out to van, moved it forward then back into reverse, and there was no problem with me getting it out of reverse gear.

Stupid van

Hi folks,

I thought I would hi-jack this thread rather than post another one My 4-speed 1.9 petrol had this same problem in a big way (like both feet on the dash trying to get it out of reverse) and I left it with a garage but they said it was fine when they came to have a look at it .

I now have the van back and 1st gear and reverse gear are still "sticky" (requiring only two hands but no feet) and was wondering where to start looking for the culprit. The gearbox works fine and all the gears drive smoothly with no mechanical noises from the gearbox so I'm quite sure it's the linkage. I've had a look at the Haynes and it's not a 5 minute job to drop it out and have a look so I thought I would see if I could narrow the search down a bit.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Regards
Alan
