Thermostat testing

Post by Novice in need »

Hi all i need a little bit more help as i have recently sorted a over heating problem which i believe was a Dalek cap malfunction, and after fitting a new thermo (from Brickwerks) i started to get the temp warning light come on, usual checks of water levels made and a top up was carried out.

But here is the problem as on another of these occassions i found that the expansion tank was full but the header tank was almost depleted of water....? which after checks and no leaks evident i realised that when driving the operational temp was constantly at maximum, expected on short in town runs but never reducing on long runs.
So this had got me wondering if the thermo was opening ok after reaching 87 Degree temp so i dismantled and put in boiling water ...NO MOVEMENT so brought one from GSF this morning and thought id check that before fitting and again NO MOVEMENT

Is there any more independant checks i can do on the thermostats prior to fitting or is it likelly that both even thou new can be faulty??????

Regards
Zoli

When GSF have a bad batch OH BOY do they have a bad batch. The stat should be easily seen to open before the water boils.

Guess il pop back down and get another but surelly these parts should be tested prior to sale from whoever sells or manufactures them ? the potential for causing more damage to a vehicle because of unfit for purpose items which someone like myself would think as its new it must be ok....Grrrrr

Thanks il pop down and get another one just cant be running back and forth .....i wonder if they will put the kettle on whilst im there
