Exterior sliding door handel 83 Devon

Has anyone changed one of these ? Mine has developed some cracks on the part that sits inside the door and connects to the internal handle. This has caused the handle to travel too far down and gouge the paint work, there is nothing for it but to get a replacement handle. J.K want nearly £60 and i will need to change the key. EBay has been disappointing with only 2 or 3 coming up in the last 8 months and costing the same as buying new one. The shape changed from 1983(the handle got shorter) but J.K sell a plain black handle with no locking mechanism for just £19, it appears to look very similar and i was thinking of using that. Has anyone had this problem?

either replace the handle with another one the same but replace the door seal for the later handle type this gets rid of all the slack in the handle, or fit a 2nd hand later style handle and seal what are cheaper and easier to locate , then just trim the rear part of handle so it does not damage you doors paintwork
