Gutted

Post by ghop99 »

Got all dressed to go play in snow and Syncro won't start only had it out last weekend with no bother at all. Getting ignition lights come on but not enough juice to turn it over. Tried jumping off the golf, no luck (but was using two sets of jump leads clipped together to reach) tried giving three hours of charge from the mains but still no luck. Gutted. AA arriving at 11.10am.

Anything I should be asking him to check. Alternator connections?

Cheers

If the lights are on the dash and you here a click when you turn the key your battery is most likely dead. AA man is unlikely to have the right one or will charge you more than it's worth if he does. If you are getting no click then it could be the starter motor frozen, or even the rotor arm or points.

My money is on the battery. Find a local motor factors and pick up a nice new one

Check the feed to the solenoid, they do have a habit of coming adrift
What a long strange trip it's been

Re: Gutted - SORTED

Pheeew! Dead battery - best possible outcome really. Apparently it was too small (0.63?) it always sounded like it struggled to get going. Bit the bullet and paid the fella 90 quid to supply and fit one with three times the power output. Sure I could have trailed around looked to save 15, 20 quid then fit i,t but the day would have been gone. So I'm off to play. Thanks for you suggestions, they will come in handy for future.

Cheers all, top blokes
