Gast strut mounting tailgate

Post by Sir Brixalot »

Have just got a couple of new struts for tailgate to save my neck muscles. Fitted one but the (push on) mount on the NS tailgate has rusted and sheared off. It looks like a replacement would just screw on but that might be just too easy does any one know if its as simple as that or does a new mount need to be welded on? thanks

Thanks for reply, had given up - still propping the tailgate up with my head. Would the old one have to be cut out and a new one welded? Yes it is the mount on the tailgate - the ball part had broken off and one strut is not enough to take the weight.

to be honest never had a really good look at how its all put together

would try drilling'tapping it first

wouldnt cut it out the worst would be drill large hole next to i at fit new nut once old is drilled out ,
can always weld up the hole you made for access to keep strength in tailgate
