squeaky heater blower revisited

Post by ewenmaclean »

Hello,

the squeak on my heater's been getting worse for a while, and I am too lazy to take the dash out and service properly at the moment, and would rather do it when it's not arctic, so I followed the advice on this link from the syncro section:

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=62077

and did what it said and now it's great. Just to be clear on the instructions, once you've made the hole, you can see the bearing that causes the squeak by looking up at 45 degrees, and only if you stick something like a headtorch up into the vent above and try and point it upwards. I used 3-in-1 oil with a spray nozzle and hoped for the best and has done the trick. Plugged the hole with a non-hollow grommet from maplin.

I know this is a temporary fix, and it's much better to deal with the problem properly as is well documented here, but if anyone else is as lazy as me, and doesn't mind the smell of 3-in-1 for the first 2 minutes I reckon this is pretty useful.
