Flat main battery- charging problem

Post by RichardU8 »

After several months off the road found my battery was flat as a pancake.
Connected up charger but will only accept 1.5 amps on 'high' charge position. After 24 hours on charge failed to turn over starter motor.
Am I looking at a new battery ? If so which readily available battery type is recommended for a 1987 T25 (for space under front seat)
The Vogon is a 1987 LHD Westy running on LPG

Yup.. Car batteries aren't like 'ordinary' rechargeables.

Below about 11.2 volts, sulphate starts to form on the plates. Trouble is, it's an insulator!

So as a general rule, once it's flat, it's flat. Do you know why it went flat? Otherwise you might end up doing the same to a new battery.
