Re: Useless additions gone to far?
im on my roof all the time for work, so would be useful

but a branch going behind that? it will either pull the ladder off or worse still lever against the vehicle and make a nasty mess or smash the windows in, tear rubber window seals etc. if plates were fitted down the leading edge of the ladder, flush to the vehicle it might work...

Maybe they bought too much tubing and they are running out of ideas on what to do with it.

This big ugly side mounted thing would be would be useful for you to get on your roof?

I prefer what I use to get on my roof, (discrete fold down step on the out side of the tailgate)

Each to their own I guess.

Re: Useless additions gone to far?
it's an elegent solution to yer mans need for climbing onto roof of westy, it's not permenant, it's lightweight, stows inside, doubles for use for upper bunk and fits securely and safely to the van enabling him to load his bus without scratching the nice paint work or falling on his a*** with a canoe on top of him; now it wouldn't suit Al say but no need to dis the yank on his forum, tact , diplomacy

that wee step is neat, but for putting heavy or bulky stuff on the roof with my dodgy old knees is boring, esp when i have to get on and off the roof 30 or 40 times in the day a ladder that hides under the rack itself is the way ill go, but it means building something up, till i can find the time to make something, ill use front wheel arch, and step up on the open door. saying that a steel ladder under the rack, is just more weight up high. hmmm...
really want your roofrack, just missed another on fleabay last week

Re: Useless additions gone to far?
Ever seen an American vanagon in a proper lane?
They tend to have open deserts or prairies and "pooh" with some pretty wide tracks. Our lanes were being formed centuries before America was ....even!
I'm not a fan of the ladder, prefer my Gary lee on the tailgate, does the same job out of the way.
But it's horses for courses, suits his purpose I guess.

Re: Useless additions gone to far?
No "diss" from me ( ) I like a ladder and have one and they are usefull to get on the roof to put my kayak on like Mark does. Mine not unlike Marks has a few other uses too,

My point is for myself personally with one stuck on the side is "I dont get it" and still dont

Re: Useless additions gone to far?
it's only fitted when being used, quick release pin through the jacking point, will carry it inside for travelling, i guess depending on what sort of canoe it will provide a more central point for the lift and be easier to lift one up single personed

Re: Useless additions gone to far?
Dont get it even more now
It sticks right out when you leave it on, And when you take it off it gets even more in the way inside the van I guess you could always pop it on the roof rack. You would just need a ladder fitted on the other side to climb up and get it

Re: Useless additions gone to far?
I have one on the back.
One permanently on the side would be silly.
Storable inside? Valuable space wasted IMO
