Various flickering dash lights/headlights etc

Post by malverner »

I have an electrical problem as follows:

Glow plug light flickers white while driving
water temp warning light comes on occasionally
headlights now very dim but sometimes go to normal
headlights flicker and are dim
even the ciggy lighter flickers when the headlights do it

On full beam the water temp flashes sometimes..particularly when not accelerating
braking makes lights a little dimmer

Also sometimes water temp needle and fuel needle stay at bottom like not registering

Also...and this was before.. when the battery is connected (after being disconnected)the cd/radio comes on.
Sometimes clicking to full beean makes the cd stop for a few seconds

(Apart from this it's fine ha ha!)

Long list I know!!

Just had the engine recditioned and the gearbox changed. Garage reckon it's no to do with what they did...

Advice please...
Fom looking at posts/speaking to a club member they thought it might be the regulator on the alternator.

Anything obvious to try before I get a vehicle electrician to sort it...

The wter temp is absolutely fine even on a long run

Thanks in advance
1763 A fine year....

Always the first place I would look are the ground connections. Check the battery first then the gearbox to body strap then the under dash hedgehogs on the nearside A pillar by the fusebox (not exhaustive list).

If the engine's been out, the gearbox strap could have been missed...
