Electrical Hook-up under camper ?

Post by nickster72 »

Firstly sorry if this question has already been posted but I couldn't find it for looking

I'm planning on fitting an electrical hook-up to my T25, but I really don't want to have to cut a hole in the side of my vehicle. I've seen posts about installing a hook-up in the rear oil flap but I don't like the sound of that !

So my question is..has anyone installed a surface mounted electrical hook-up to the underside of their T25 ? I was thinking somewhere close to the rear of the drivers seat. Is this a mad idea ? Am I barking ? Is this a viable option ?

I'm running a 1980 2 Litre Air Cooled Devon High Top

If anyone has already done this I would really appreciate any pictures they could show me

All thoughts, comments, mikey taking and of course wisdom happily accepted.

Thanks everyone
I asked for a car, I got a computer. How's that for being born under a bad sign?

You will still have to cut a hole in the bodywork, into an area which takes most of the brunt of water, salt and mud.

Then you want to plug in an electrical item.

Think about it...

I installed mine just inside the the number plate flap on the right. Has been there for over a year now and works no problems. When I am plugged in on a campsite the cable fits nicely out of the gap. There is a picture of it in my garage thingy.

Martin.

Diesel is an engine not a fuel.

I liked camping so much I went full time.

Besides the obvious like being struck by objects as you drive along it'd be a right pain to plug into in wet / snow etc

So looks like installing in the engine compartment is the way to go.

Thanks for all your advice, thanks batmangb for the pics certainly seems like the best plan

This is the way alot of us have um mounted really easy to use at campsites then ( just to note yours would need to be turned through 90 deg as oil filler pipe will be in the way!)

Looks good James, I toyed with that set up myself. But I didn't like the flap being open when the plug is in it. With mine it closes completely when hooked up.

You have to drill a hole through the body work into the area under the RnR bed.
I got away with only one hole, it's not an easy task because of the access and the sound reducing foam.
Don't forget to fit a good grommet to stop the cable being cut by the bodywork.
