Heated Seats on Swivel bases?

Post by Iceworx »

Afternoon all! Any suggestions as to how to go about mounting some saab heated seats on swivel bases?

Im a little lost for ideas as to how to wire it so the seat can swivel without taking the wiring off, or it being snagged/caught?

thanks

Chris, use plenty of free wire and make sure you don't keep swivelling in the same direction.

You have PM

Thanks Martin!

Also found some swivel bases that have large diameter central holes. so I can put the wire through theat and at most it will only ever take a half turn

I've copied the PM I sent to Chris to save typing it all again.

You will need the switches. They go for all sorts of silly prices on eBay but I got mine off this guy http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Saab-9000-Aero-He ... 45edbde90d They're only £2.50 each

Make sure you ask him to send you the connector plug with the wires attached (no extra cost) as this makes life so much easier.

Wiring the seats
from a message on a Saab Forum

The heating elements are thermostatically controlled by the special control units, using sensors fitted inside the seats. The controls units have four positions, off and three heat levels, and they have the following connections

2: +12V from the fuse box - Yellow wire
6: Thermostat - Blue wire
7: Illumination - White/brown wire
9: Ground - Black wire
10: Heating element - White/yellow wire

The wiring coming from the seat is as follows:

Thermostat - Blue x2 (one to control switch , one to ground)
Heating element - Yellow x2 (one to control switch, one to ground)

This didn't make much sense to me but I figured it out with a bit of faffing around once the switches arrived with the wiring attached. The only thing I didn't manage / bother with wiring was the illumination.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Hi there,

I have a brown and white wire which is in both switches, one switch only has one, the other as two wires out of the same slot. I have heard that these are to stop the heated from draining the battery if engine off, how do you wire this bit as mine dont seem to work and think its this.

Anyone got any ideas?

Also just to check the wiring in the fuse box, what have people attached the heated seats to? Just I am trying to find whats at fault, sure its this brown and white wire but just double checking the connection.

Thanks in advance

The brown and white wires are just for the illumination to the switches. They wire to the lighting circuit but I never bothered with them. If you don't want the seats to drain the battery then simply wire them to the ignition circuit rather than directly to the battry. That way they will only draw power when the ignition is switched on.
