Lowered 50mm-Bouncy-JK uprated shocks?

Post by mrmuch »

Hi guys n gals,

I lowered my van a few years back(50mm) but never changed the shocks, hey presto bouncy handling

I see JK do an "uprated" set at a reasonable price, does anyone know what they mean by uprated?
I'm hoping that the damping would be increased over a standard setup as this would prevent my pogo like handling.

You guys used these? wil they do the job?

Another option is to use standard sachs/boge ones, although i'm not sure how long they would last.

I've seen the adjustable one's available but they are out of my budget, so are there any other alternatives if the JK/sachs one's are not up to scratch?

Any advice you can giv me will be very much apprieciated,
cheers people! 8)

Cheers for the link and No i havn't,(bump stops)
i could do although i have only bottomed out once or twice, its not overly converted/laden so the lack of weight helps.
Its all down to old shocks just not sure which replacements to get.

cheers for the welcome mate, i used to use the old forum but have only just reregistered here today.

Still wondering which to get, its all down to cash flow really, other wise i'd go for the adjustable ones.

Thanks 8)

New to the scene myself 8)

Was tempted by the JK's but want to make sure that I buy the right kit first time, the AVO's look expensive but the adjustability looks attractive too!

Let me know how you get on with the JK's if you go that route.

JK actually say more 'heavier duty' which sounds ominous :?

I have a jk kit n its fine, not quite as plush as an AVO set i'd wager but tis ample enough for the job! Mines down 60mm too and its not very harsh at all but it does get a tiny bit bumpy sometimes not that i notice jus one older git has!

iv just fitted these myself(jk up rated shocks) and they do what they say on the box, they are not rock hard from what i can see they have a larger piston area hence up rated, they seem fine with my van ,its 60mm lowered, they work what can i say, just check your bump stops specialy on the front mine were still standard length, and i didnt think by ride was to bad but its sweet now, you cant beet the price £25 each, standard shocks are only a couple of quid cheaper :D
if its not broke dont fix it, or i will ;-)

some good info.
I've just bought some 60mm lowered springs but haven't got any shocks yet. I mailed Just Kampers to ask them about their uprated shocks and they're still standard length which I was a bit concerned about, but if you guys haven't had any problems then I guess I'll try em out n if they're crap then I'll just have to dig a little deeper n buy the AVO kit, but at 3 times the price of a set of JK shocks they're a little out of my price range.

Aye There just a quick update,

went for a short test drive and the van felt great-
No more BOUNCE!

so yea IMO i would recomend the jk shocks.
I also took off two sections of the bump stop.

Good product and cheap.

Hope this thread helps people

I'm glad this thread was here........some VERY useful info. Was toying with getting just the springs but for around £250 it seems mad not to get the full kit.
A friend had these fitted about a year ago and he only has good things to say about them. Hopefully I'll have some cash left once I've moved house!!
I'm sure that rust wasn't there last week! Rust blue slowly going yellow panel by panel - And five years later, Orange!
