Dickspanners Dirty Diesel Dilemma

Post by dickspanner »

Ok,

Here is the question.

If I wanted to remove the Cosworth engine from the crewcab (which will be easy) and install a good Diesel what donar vehicle should I be looking for.

It will be a pain as I will have to install a new fuel tank again as I put the cosworth pump in my fuel tank. I did not modify the diesel harness and think I still have the rest of the harness.

Cheap donar vehicle I should keep my eye out for???? Problems with that particular car/engine problem??

Cheers guys, don't want to open up a massive topic for arguments just a simple list of engine/car combinations.

Cheers

AAZ seems the old favourite. Fitted in b4 passats from 93-96. 1z is also popular but requires more wiring as pump is electronic and pedal is fly by wire. These engines are also fitted in seats around the same era and 1z in some audi's :ok

Just thinking about it at the moment, wanted to put some costings together.

There are a lot of people who would rather purchase my crewcab with a dirty diesel in rather than the Cosworth motor.

I am pulling the Cosworth engine out next week then going to work out how much it will cost for the engine repair. If I can put a DD in cheaper it may be the way forward and the Cosworth engine installed in another project like a Triumph Spitfire.......

We shall see next week after the cossy motor is out.

I will be trawling ebay and Auto trader to find a passat TDi and see how much I can get hold of one of those for as well.

MM,

That sounds like a fun project to do.

I think the biggest challenge for the Cosworth motor is the cost of the parts just to strip the engine on its own.

I think the engine rebuilder did not replace the valve seals and one may have a hairline crack in. Annoyingly to get the head off I have to take the engine out and the front water pump has to be romoved to get to the timing chain tensioner to release the cams etc.

Oh well you live by the sword.
