If you've got a spark at the plugs and fuel in the carbs maybe the distributor has moved. Get a marker pen and mark the position of the distributor relative to the engine so you've got a starting point to go back to if it is loose. After you've marked the starting position try to rotate the distributor body. If it moves you should be able to time it statically by setting the mark on the fan pulley to 0' and lining up the rotor arm with the notch in the rim of the distributor. Then tighten the clamp back up & try to start again. If that fixes it you'll need to set it properly with a timing light.
If the distributor is still tight then the problem could be the Hall sensor in the distributor or the ignition control unit. I'm guessing you've got the standard electronic ignition & a dual vac distributor fitted? You could also check the connections between the dizzie, coil, idle control (if its connected) and the ignition control unit for damp or corrosion.
2ltr Aircooled CU with twin Solex's & originally a 009 dizzie, but now back to standard.

Hi..........I agree with Boxy,

Iv'e got the same engine and just had the same fault.
The pins in the two plugs from the idle stabilizer unit (the ones that can be plugged together) were well oxidized.
I cleaned em with some electrical contact spray and she fired up first time!
