glowplug 'warning' light

Post by gilbert »

When I collected my newly fitted cheap (£900) recon 1.6Td I noticed that the yellow glowplug light did not go off before starting up - but it went off as soon as the engine started.
'Just count to twenty before starting her up,' said the 'mechanic'.
Because I was glad finally to be getting my van back after three weeks, I couldn't be bothered to argue and left. I know my way around petrol engines but know nothing about diesels. I assume there's a simple fix?

Cheers
Gilbert

15 - 20 seconds...

I rarely wait for mine to go off... seems a helluva long time I know.

If you've waited longer and it never goes off, maybe the relay is not working properly. Check the 55A fusible link in the junction box first.
