passat and audi 1.6td engines with t3 turbo

Post by 81tdi »

been having a read and cant find any mention on here of using pre 86 audi 80 (cy engine code) or pre 88 vw passat 1.6 turbo diesels :? . great for a t25, as they use the same inlet and exhaust manifolds as a jx, and already have a spigot bearing. and the flywheel looks really similar to the jx, but i would have to sit them side by side and look at them. obviously still need the mounts, sump, etc, the oil filter housing needs swapped for a t25 or golf one, and you would need the alternator and bracket as well. best thing is you get a garrett t3 (or maybe kkk equivalent) instead of the hairdryer turbos on aaz and tdi motors, or the t2 on a jx. this makes for an easy further upgrade. you do get the t3 on some mk2 golfs but have to rotate the parts to make them fit a t25, try doing that to a 20+ year old turbo. audi one just fits straight on. mine is the standard spec t3 and audi exhaust manifold on my homebrew 1z mtdi, my mate has an rs turbo blower and golf mk2 exhaust manifold on his golf tdi (1z) and its great. its only the little turbos that stop them revving.
