1z mtdi crank pulley failiure

Post by 81tdi »

just thought i pop up a bit of a warning, its not just the aaz crank pulleys that come loose, my mtdi 1z just sheared clean off at 80mph on the motorway, end of the bolt still in the crank, end of the crank is ruined, guessing my lovely ported head might be scrap :( . glad it happened in england, about 40 mile from the ferry back from 5000 mile round europe. aa brought it the last 300 mile home. at least i have a spare engine in the shed, but think imight go and buy a timing gear and bolt from vw before i put it in. and i am going to mark the outer bottom pulley and timing cover so you can line the flywheel up and check both timing marks are still in the same place. but when it was working averaged 42mpg :) , and did 92 on the speedo with a high top (88.5 on the sat nav, but that does not sound as impressive).
