do you mean the splines have stripped Andy?

If so you need to do the washer trick
put a washer on before the arm and tighten the nut down

the nut may be bottoming out against the spline shoulder. So a washer or two may be in order to keep the nut from stripping the threads on the shaft as it bottoms out

You need to find or make a special washer that will fit down over the shoulder on the shaft so that you can get pressure against the arm. Then clean out all the splines really well, reinstall, torque like crazy for the size of the nut

You need to remove the arm and clean all the chewed up bits of ally from the splines on the wiper spindle.
Use a pin or the edge of a stanley blade and clean EVERY spline.
Then refit, sometimes as notoed you need to use a thicker washer than VW provided.
No need for nylocs.
No need to swing on the nut either, just clean the splines.

Excellent, my camper has the same problem, I'll be out first thing tomorrow to have a look and give this a go.
It's not just annoying but bloody dangerous when the wiper keeps moving off the glass and catching :x
