Do you use a jubilee clip on your gas hose?

Just changed my gas bottle and it got me thinking. I was told a while back by one of the workers at a local caravan site, that is was against regulations for them to use jubilee clips on gas bottle hoses (static caravans). This is so they can quickly remove the gas bottle in the event of a fire or emergancy. Now I get that, as bottles are kept outside, so a small leak wouldn't be a problem.

Just wondered what the school of thought was for gas bottles in the van? Presumably if the correct pipe and regulator is used, then the push fit should be air / gas tight. Does anyone use jubilee clips on thir gas hose / regulator?

If you are connecting to a fixed connection like a copper pipe or the fridge or cooker then Yes use a jubilee clip. If it is to the gas bottle end then I think no - the gas bottle should have a connection like the one below


The end has the knobbles to hold the pipe on.

I would use a knife in an emergency - by far the quickest - one or two strokes and it's disconnected.
My experience of those regulator tails is that the hose sticks to them and cannot be pulled off.

I have just received some lpg hose from Calor Gas www.socal.co.uk and they say that hose dia 8mm and above you can use jubilee clips. Smaller hose dia you should use hose crimp clips.

Whoever told you that was making it up as he went along. The argument against jubilee clips is the same as with fuel lines. A jubilee clip does not tighten evenly around the pipe so does not always ensure a gas tight seal. In practice though as long as its done up as tight as it will go and it is sized correctly to the pipe it will be fine. By the book it should only be with proper crimps but its f**k all to do with an emergency! If you really want to return to a gas bottle in an emergency (I wouldn't, my instinct would be to put as much distance between me and the bottle as possible) you'd just pop the regulater off, which would also stop the flow of gas unlike disconecting the hose!

When i first bought my van i took it straight to the local caravan repair shop for a proper gas leak test. The hose was attached to the reg with a cable tie , he cut that straight off and fitted a jubilee clip to it instead, and he's a qualified professional

Condition of hose, quality and correct type for LPG - fixed with a jubille clip....never had a problem!

Sorry a bit slow on the reply but I found this yesterday when looking for something else and remembered this thread.
The man from the LPGA he say yes, jubilee clips are ok, but don't over tighten them.
