opening kitchen windows

Post by Si_P »

I'm looking to spend the winter months modifying my van (paint your wagon etc...). One of the requests made is for opening windows in the back.

My van is a Holdsworth conversion which I think means ex pannel van.

Where can I source these windows from and how tricky are they to fit? Any experiences with unwanted drafts etc would also be helpful. (I like the louvred glass but am worried that it would whistle whilst the van is in motion)

Ta all

Si

I Have a sliding opening window in the kitchen area of my Autohomes Karisma and unfortunately, (due to poor design) it leaks water onto the floor in wet weather. Water cannot escape from the inner sliding channel fast enough and it runs down the side panel just behind the location of the three way fridge on most vans. IMO, this contributes to the rot that these vans suffer along the OS floor/sill. The drain slots are effectively sealed off when the window is shut - ludicrous! I have added extra holes at a point where the window (when shut) will allow water to run into the outer channels and escape but I am considereing a one piece window design and getting rid of the sliding window......I never use it anyway as it blows the gas hobs out most of the time!

I have a Holdsworth fitted with the slatted type kitchen window, i dont have any leaks or draughts, it does rattle a little when driving sometimes, I also have the mosquito metal mesh which means I can leave open at night for ventilation.I think that they are great.

The only slight design issue is that with my new kitchen units fitted its not possible to have them open fully when cooking as the cooker lid when locked open catches on the lever used to open the louvres ..... not a huge issue, oh and the thermal mats cant stick to the wire mesh, but I have left the fitted curtains on this window.

Mines the same, ended up drilling some small hole in the frame, seems to run out now. I like the idea of a top hinged window rather than a slider

I do like the look of the slatted ones. Do you have any pics of the mossy mesh?

And was it standard fit to your van or did you fit it?

I'm all questions at the mo!

As far as I know it was standard fitment to the Holdsworth conversion in 1985, I will take a pic later and post. When i first got the van I was worried about it leaking, but I havn't had any drips atall
