Lots of steam
Got 10 miles yesterday morning going to work and big cloud of steam from the rear of the crew cab, got to be the head gasket blown so thinking is it time to upgrade the engine or just repair the 1600 D, been one thing after another lately.

Re: Lots of steam
Hi, are you sure its the gasket thats gone?
I had a similar problem with my T25 a couple of years ago. I'd stopped at traffic lights when the guy behind me came running up to the drivers door & told me therer was steam coming from the rear. I drove the mile or so home, looked underneath & found it was on of the sensors had come out of the housing. The plastic "U" clip that holds the sensor in place had disintegtated. Pressure had pushed it out. So I fitted a new sensor & clip topped up with water & that as they say was that !!! Maybe worth looking first. Good luck.

Re: Lots of steam
Hi Stewart,
Pritty sure it's the head gasket as the engine cut out as soon as it blew due to lost compression, would spin over on the starter but nothing else but will be sticking my head in the engine bay this weekend to have a good look so will check out what you;ve suggested. Thanks
Will also be ripping out the dash clocks as the temp gauge was u/s and Iv not been able to get one so it's now convert everythig and fit good old Smith gauges.

Re: Lots of steam
Hi Mike, No it just spins over on the starter but nothing happening... was small puffs of condensation from the silencer then a big cloud as the engine shut down.

Re: Lots of steam
I had a similar problem, forever filling up the water tank then after a run and finding it empty.
So I decided to run the engine and watch the engine bay.
When it was really hot I noticed a fine spray of steam from the seal of the plactic tank which did not vent until boiling hot and under extreme pressure.
New tank, problem sorted.
Regards...Frank
