I know this is probably not the best fridge in the world, but it came with the van and finances dictate I cant get a different one yet.
But I've got no operating instructions and have never used a 3 way fridge before.
I take it that it should either be used on one or the other, ie gas, 12v or mains?
Also, how do I know when the gas is lit? Can you see the flame down the back?
What happens if its connected to the battery and you plug into mains or try and ignite gas at the same time?
1st trip planned for weekend so any help to keep the beer supply cool and maybe a few rashes of bacon) will be gratefully received.
Cheers
Dan

I have a Sibir coolbox, it's a good piece of kit. Paid about 150 yoyos for it.

If you run it from the leisure battery (LB) it will flatten your battery in a short time as it pulls about 8 amps. It can also melt the end of the 12v ciggie lighter type plug (mine did). I fitted an extra relay so that it only gets power from the LB when the engine is running.
Also, how do I know when the gas is lit? Can you see the flame down the back?
They are a bugger to light, turn the gas knob up to just below full and press it down and hold it for about 20 secs before pressing the ignitor button. You should hear a pop as it ignites. You can see the flame through the back. If you turn the knob past the max mark you will get a smaller gas flow.
What happens if its connected to the battery and you plug into mains or try and ignite gas at the same time?
I don't know I have not be daft enough to try this, I would image nothing will happen but, nevertheless, don't do it.

Re: Sibir 3 way fridge operation
Thanks Titus, I'll give it a try on the gas tonight.
Theres no direct vent to the outside is it safe to leave on gas overnite or should I run an exhaust from the back of the fridge to the outside?
Sorry for all the questions, but it would be nice having finally aquired me Dub to live a bit so I can use it

I had a problem with the wind blowing the flame out so I put it in the bus behind the seat next to the sliding door and kept the sliding door open by about 5 - 8 cm thus maintaining a flow of fresh air. I also sleep with my head toward the tailgate and the tailgate is held ajar with a stand-off.

Re: Sibir 3 way fridge operation
Dan,
apologies I thought the instructions were In the van. I've found them & will post them to you tomorrow. It's a great fridge and if left on full on gas it will freeze stuff inside...) we always used it on gas in the van and left it on all the time although the instructions do say you should only do this on electric. Ooops. We never had a problem though so I guess Vera's natural venting got rid of any nasties. We use a CO alarm on trips as a precaution.
Like has been said they can be a bugger to light but once lit it's very efficient. It once wouldn't light and sibir (electrolux by the way) told us to tip it upside down, leave it a while, turn it back over and try again. Something to do with the coolant settling. It worked a treat and never did it again.
Instructions on the way anyway. Enojy your trip.
