sliding door keeps coming off!

Post by alkers »

Hi, my sliding door has become a bit precarious. If we slide it too far open, it comes off. It comes off at 2 points, the floor - which looks pretty rusty and I think the edge has broken off... Can this be fixed by welding? And the rear panel - which is also pretty rusty, and I am not sure if the runner (its a bit plastic and a bit metal) is now broken.

We are still using it - although tentatively with a hammer and screwdriver always close to hand, but can anyone give me an idea of how tricky this would be to fix properly? My rear panel is the rustiest part of my van, But is replacing the rear panel really a necessity? I know some people are obsessed with removing rust, but it isn't really cost effective to me, I just rub down and treat annually.

Also, one of my front doors seems unhappy. It is slanting a bit on its hinges, and scraping the wheel arch. I imagine this must be easy to fix - do I just tighten the bolts that hold it on?

Cheers!

Ahh ever the optomist.
your front door, you imagine is easy to fix, ok then go fix it
my humour sorry, if the bolt are loose then yep maybe you should tighten them , if they are tight then what has rotted/broke ? have a look at the other side if thats ok and compare.

Slider, need a picky else a new xtal ball, so wont speculate or surmise,

back panal, rust if your happy to keep lashing whatever on is not a prob if your happy, structurally it needs to be in some sort of shape as it ties in the rear of the van, also depending on what lump you run may have the mountings attatched,
