2ltr timing

Post by thebeach2008 »

hi , im sorry if this is a silly question but im confused, can someone confirm the correct timming for a 2ltr Aircooled with electronic ignition running pdsit twin carbs as in the haynes book it says, 7.5 btdc with point dizzy and 4to 6 atdc with electronic dizzy with vacuum pipes connected, when it set it to 4 atdc it seems very hesitant, i dont want to alter the carbs until i know i have the correct timing cheers all gary

Have you disconnected the wires from the idle control unit and connected them together?
I thought it was 7.5 BTDC for electronic ignition but could be wrong

yep im not running a idle stabalizer unit, in the haynes manual it states 7.5 btdc for points dizzy but 4 to 6 atdc for electronic, thats my point i havelooked in the manual , but it runs very hesitantly if i use the setting for the electronic ignition as i have it ,but runs better at anything before tdc i dont want to tune the carbs if the timings wrong and over heat it, plugs at 7.5 btdc are very white showing over heating, eg timing, carbs, im not sure weatheri should set it as per haynes and alter tthe carbs or stick with the 7.5 btdc even though its wrong for electronic ignition
