My trick answer then is... No you can't... It will make your engine expand and engulf half of the world, destroying huge populations and threating the existance of mankind as we know it...!

Yes you can! It's in the wiki too.
Can't quite make out the label but it should really be mineral oil too.
Mark.

I think an 'Oil WIKI' needs sorting, if only to put an end to "what oil should I be using". My answer remains the same on this subject. Most oils made today are suitable for petrol OR diesel (read the back of the bottle to confirm) but whatever you use, change it regular, thats the biggest factor of all. Some like to blow £40 on a bottle, others just £7, but regular changes count most in my view. And thats all I have to say on the subject.

Keep it cheap, change it regularly, all current mineral 15W/40 exceeds VW's original spec so even the budget stuff is just fine so here's some at £8.49:

They do a Diesel 15W/40 as well at the same price.

Man after my own heart. LIDL also do a very good oil (when they have it in) for just under a tenner and there was the Morrisons Texaco deal a while back - just £4.99 a can! All met or exceeded 80s VW spec.

Indeed....I've still got 2 Texaco Havolines (Morrisons deal) in the shed, that's the van covered for a while at least.
