Westy external lpg valve..what cooker??

Post by mwheatley »

Hi,

I could do with a little advice regarding what I can connect to the external lpg valve on the underslung lpg tank of my Westy in order to partake in a little al fresco cooking. As I'm sure most of you know the German van runs at 50 millibars, and all the English cookers/bbqs I've found run at 28mb or 37mb. I've spoken to a few specialist, Gasure & Gaslow and both tell me it's not as simple as putting an in line 50-28mb (50-37mb) regulator on the hose going from the take off valve to the cooker.......in fact there was all sorts of talk of changing cooker jets etc etc! Also that a 3m hose (which is what I'd need to get under the van to the correct side) would be dangerous. Other advice I was given also was to buy a cooker from the continent that runs at 50mb, I have looked on web but can't seem to find anything, or can't understand the lingo enough to navigate around!

The question is..........what does everyone else do? I want it to be safe, but surely it can't be this difficult otherwise they wouldn't have given the option on the van?

I have searched the past threads on the forum but couldn't find anything to match.

Help needed.

Thanks.

I think quite a few on here have Cadac BBQ's and haven't changed the regulator - I don't think anyone has blown themselves up or owt as yet.

Hi Phil,

I have heard this before......do you run this from the lpg tank without any extra regulator?

Hi

I run a simular set up with no real issues and have a length of hose that runs along the side and in front to he other side of the van. The only thing that I have noticed is when you first light the BBQ the flame can some times light and then go out a few seconds later. I put this down to a pocket of air in the pipe between disconnecting and reconnecting it to the tank? I been using this arrangment for 3 yrs, works fine.

We are into our second full season with a Cadac Easychief Deluxe running directly from the external BBQ take off (no regulator) standard brass jet fitted in the Cadac (although they also supplied another jet suitable for 50mb in the kit) the flame looks fine/blue, not too powerful as you might expect.
We are using a 5 metres hose under our Westie to the o/s with no problems what so ever.
I have some new high pressure 'gas/LPG' grade hose if you want me to take some to Vanfest..This is the best grade Oxyacetalene hose (higher quality and tougher than standard orange pipe)
£1.75 per meter if you're interested

Hi Martin,

Thanks for the offer, I would love some but won't be at Vanfest I'm afraid. Would you be able to give me a cost for posting 5m up to Stafford?
