Standard stereo question

Post by sln123 »

Hi all
Having a problem with the standard (I think) radio cassette in my 1990 Westy. I always disconnect both the starter and the leisure battery if I am not using the bus for a couple of weeks & in the 3 years I have had the van it has never been a problem. I connect the battery up, re-tune the radio & it works. I have just got the van ready to go away next week & the radio won't tune in & it won't play casettes either, in fact after switching it on non of the buttons do anything. I have popped it out it all the wires in the connector block at the back look ok.

I noticed that there is an orange key symbol on the front of the radio which is making me think that the radio may have a security lock out function. I wondered if my guess about being locked out is right and if so how do you reset it as my manual is in German (which I don't speak). Guess it could just be that the radio is dead. Any help gratefully received as it will be a long run from Brum to the Lakes next week with no radio....

Cheers
Steve

Check for power going to the connectors, if not perhaps an inline fuse has blown? Is it wired to the starter battery or have you swapped it over? If it's on the leisure check the fuse is ok on that circuit.

If all power works etc, get to Aldi and buy one of their cheap units to get you to the lakes and back :D
What a long strange trip it's been
