engine confusion!!!!!
Finally found the engine code on my engine, i knew it wasnt a 1.6na like the log book says! It says AEF on it so i looked the engine up and its downfull is the lucas pump so i thought i ill see if mine has the lucas pump, and it dosn't it has the original bosch. Is this unusal or a commen conversion, I would like to add that the van only does 60mph cruising on the motorway, i can get to 70 but my revs would be way too high, the wheels that the van came with are big and wide, would this be causing the lack of speed. The engine runs as sweet as a nut, starts first time everytime, it would be nice to cruise along a bit faster!

Re: engine confusion!!!!!
I have fitted an AEF to my van, as have others. It's great. Nothing wrong with the Lucas pump as long as you don't want to fit a turbo or run on Bio. Possible to fit a Bosch pump, but it seems like a lot of hassle for no performance gain. With the original 1.6D gearbox my top speed is limited by engine revs to 70 ish, and it will cruise at 60ish. The key here is to adequately soundproof so you can ignore the engine buzzing away. With the original gearbox, top speed is limited but it should storm up hills (relatively speaking obviously!) If you want to trade some of the hill climbing for cruising speed, you can fit a different gearbox or bigger tyres. I'm no expert at tyres or gearboxes. I figured that low mileage AEF engines are as cheap as gearboxes at present, so I bought two, and I won't be too distressed if I wear one out.
1.9D (AEF) pop-top. Aaaaahhhhh........that's better.
