Quick Coolant Pump Question

Post by johncelliot »

I'm just getting ready to change the coolant pump on my 2.1 1987 transporter. In the past when I have done this job, I have applied some kind of sealer to the flange of the pump before fitting it to the engine. The Haynes manual makes no mention of using a sealer, and it looks like it just uses an O-ring for the seal. Do I need to apply any aditional sealer to the water pump, or is the O-ring sufficient? Thanks for the help.

Did mine last week, no sealant needed but used a v.small amount of grease to seat the O ring as a precaution. Easy job! :D
If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried.
