This is another oil question sorry
Just changed oil to 20w50 mineral, and had a pump changed too. Had been rocking 15w40 but I was getting low oil pressure after it had been running on motorway for an hour, so put higher grade oil in to address possible hot oil problem.
It is a 1.9 DG, it has fresh coolant and 125k on 1st engine.
Oil light now flickers when on idle when engine is warm such as traffic lights etc. Had been having noisy tappets prior to oil change so added wynns hydraulic valve additive. Any suggestions? OIl too thick, valve cleaner not a good idea etc. All pressure switches have been changed, dashboard ribbon looks fine, oil level is 75% between the dipstick notches.

Re: Oil light flicker
my oil light flickers from time to time.I used to worry about it but could not find out why it did it i even put it into a garage for them to have a look but they could not find anything wrong and told me not to worry about it so i haven't and that was about 4 years ago.
Re: Oil light flicker
I am thinking of ignoring the light and carrying on, the light goes out as soon as the van is moving.. of course that might be the dumbest thing in the world to do and cost a new engine. If the light came on in my polo I would get it serviced but im running out of ideas on the bus.

Re: Oil light flicker
Id just like to share my frustration with everyone (sorry). Pesky oil light flickering at idle still. New oil pump, new mineral oil, new filter, new (30 day old) pressure sensors. Really not sure why it disco's in my dash. It didn't happen before the oil pump was changed (only came with the buzzer when rpm dropped on motorway), now light comes on at idle at every opportunity.
Any suggestions on how to mess around further with the oil system please let me know, otherwise il blame viscosity and carry on driving.
p.s.
In the event my engine was to go pop, what kind of shopping list might I need? Is it worth getting a ready built from JK, VW heritage, brickwerks etc or is there anything that might be salvaged?

Re: Oil light flicker
As I said in my previouse posting ,this is the first one that came up
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LMA-SWG-0-100-psi ... 0650441442" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
fit this and you have a real time oil pressure reading, then you will know exactly what pressure you have and when.
carry on as you are and you "might" need a hell of a lot more ££££
