engine rattle problem or not?

Post by Martin & Lynn »

Returned last week from a fortnight away in the van (1100 miles), started her up today and there is a rattle from the engine more of a tick noise consistent with the revs (when you rev the noise speeds up), oil and water okay. any ideas?

you need a oil change i recon,
sounds like tappet rattle, normally only do it when been stood for a while, or when the oil needs changing.......
in your case maybe being parked up after doing 1100 miles a bit of both?

What he said ^^^^^^

The oil drains out of the hydraulic tappets and they tap away like a woodpecker on speed ! usually a run of 20 mins will quieten them back down.

when the oil is a little old it will be worse, I would recommend changing the oil every 3000 miles , £20 and 20 mins work, keep the receipts and when you sell the van you can show the prospective purchaser that the van has been well 8) loved
