Front spoiler removal

Post by silverbullet »

Being as the plastic under the bumper on the SA has two whacking great holes hacked in it from where the bullbars used to fit (and no front recovery eye - cut off  ), I was going to fit some spare "middles" that I have on another bus that doesn't deserve them...
What's the accepted technique for removing the siezed in PZ screws? Drill out completely and replace the rivnuts, but then how to remove the remains from inside the front beam so it doesn't become a giant rattle?
This should be in the wiki too...

I mangled a couple with just a screwdriver - they seem pretty soft. They had a good soaking with WD40 a while back so I'll reach for the impact driver and give 'em a belting.

Is the front (5 piece?) spoiler on a SA bus mounted differently? I ask as I've looked at removing ours - non SA bus - and it doesn't seem to be attached to the front beam. Although I didn't have a good look as it was chucking it down at the time.

Let us know if you manage to shift the screws, and how. Ours wont budge!

Exactly the same, complete with familiar part numbers! FYI It should be fixed all the way around, VWSA used hex-head bolts instead of PZ set screws - to help you wring them off instead of just stripping the pozidriv point...

Can you tell me if that impact driver worked?
Not sure it would help me though.
Just spent a chunk of my afternoon trying to remove my front spoiler in readiness for van painting.
Some of the pozi screws/ bolts came out fine.
But I've got half a dozen along the front that just spin and don't unscrew
I guess the rivnuts in the front parts of the spoiler aren't tight?
So thought I'd get the drill out...
This makes heat and/or makes the washer spin and so it eats into the plastic of the spoiler.
So gave up for today.
Any other ideas anyone?
