Another Tristar wannabe!!!

Post by dizzydubber »

Hi new to the forum, just spent the last 4 hrs reading some interesting stuff. Im big into dubs, and have been all since crawling (now 33). Anyhow looking for a 4x4 dub as I live out in the sticks and winters an asshole!! Anyway had a taro a few years back which was great but the 2.2 wasnt all that. Was looking at the new vw Amarock but thats gonna be a few years to go yet. Currently have a 2k Caddy van, which I was playing about the idea of raising it, 16"s and BFG's for the winter, but it aint no 4x4. Got my eyes on a Golf country at the mo, but not really sure its me. Hence a syncro crewcab. Been typical I like rare things and it didnt take me long to find out about the Tristar. So im on the hunt for a RHD Star, yes im well aware they are rarer then the rocking horse do do, but the way I see it theres a better chance of been tipped on one on here then randomly looking around on the net.

So if anyone wants to give theirs away im all ears. looking for advice, tips and general life experience living with one.

Thanks

Ian

You will be lucky i think that there were less than 20 rhd tristars made, although you never know what around the corner.

Less than 11 left. Allegedly!

But you can find anything if the budgets right. What's yours?

Apparently converting is a bit of a nightmare.
LHD really is not an issue after half an hours driving, my first experience of driving on a motorway was driving mine from Dover to Liverpool, all round visibility is good, plus your high enough to see over most things so overtaking is not much of a problem, I really wouldn't bother hunting for RHD.

Also heard, that converting is a 'mare & getting conversion certified is even worse.
Not that there's many to pick from but you didn't say what price range you are looking at.
Have you thought about just getting a RHD Syncro Doka? Why a Tristar?

Not sure about the price, as they seem to be all over the place, thought a tristar and doka are the same vehicle? Please correct me as obviously im wrong. Im not to bothered with it been a 16" version as im assuming that its the size wheels it runs on and therefore a little higher, would prob raise the truck anyway. Im all ears and like a virgin sponge ready to asorbe info.

Kinky!

Right....No, a Doka is a doublecab pickup, a Tristar is a top of range Doka, a syncro (4x4) Tristar is rare thing, a RHD Syncro Tristar is like rocking horse poo!

Syncro's are classed as 14" & 16". 16" have bigger wheels obviously but there are lots of other little differences to. You will not find a RHD 16" Syncro.

Any clearer? :ok

Where abouts are you based? If you are anywhere near Cornwall you can come and look at mine to get an idea of what they are like. All rhd tristars come with dual diff locks. I am running mine on 15" steels with bfg 215-75-15s which really suit the truck.
