Now wont start! Power to coil but no spark?!

Post by youde4 »

Hello all,

My van decided not to start yesterday, checked basic things and heres where i am...... Im not getting any spark from the the main Ht lead, so i checked the coil and its getting power, and tried another to see if it was faulty but still no joy. Ive tried other leads and there not sparking either. Ive checked earths, reset ECU, theres fuel in it, but it s weird how the coils fine but im not getting that spark. What else can it be?! On the coil theres power to positive side but could it be the to leads from the negative? the connections are fine but where do they go? Is there a fuse or relay that could be bust in that line or something?

Ive been convinced to go to a wedding in north wales tomorrow on the basis i can offroading all sunday, but its looking unlikely atm!!

Any suggestions?!

Turned out to be a bodged bit of wiring in the hall sensor wiring that goes into the dizzy, hidden well under the waterproof sleeve!!

Any one know what happens if i run it without the lambda plugged in? It seems to be ok.... solves my overfuelling problem. (2.1. digijet)

if it's a digijet you wont have a lambda probe, it's used on the difignant injection system, and if it is not pluged in it will run rich and the ecu will set it's self top run in a limp mode.

the signal wire from the lambda sensor is a shielded wire and its quite common apparently in the states for the metal braid to short out the ecu and make it run rich. i had this problem with my syncro and to make things worse it was intermitant so i fixed it a dozen times without knowing what the hell i`d done.

tencentlife on the samba was spot on first time with the diagnosis, he sees a lot of these vans and is a bit of a wiz.

Cheers all, turned out to be a problem with the hall connector hidden well under the waterproofing sleeve bit. Someone had fiddled with it and fixed it in now time!

New it would be something stupid!
