Hi All
I have a 2.1 camper from 1989 and the outer square (it's actually rectangular) headlight has corroded inside.
I know the single round H4 headlights are still available for RHD and are reasonably priced.
Will the round lights fit on the square carriers or are there modifications?...and if so how tricky?
Unless someone knows where I can get a replacement outer rectangular (OS) light.
Thanks in advance.

right hand drive square lights are expensive but do come up for sale but normally as a pair. try some of the breakers,

failing that it is easy to go to round lights , just unscrew squares and fit round as use the same outer mounitng holes and then drill the inner 2 holes and fit screws. only difference is yours may or may not have the larger bracket for fitting the grille on as square grille is differenet. no wiring mods needed but in my opinion round lights look crap compared to square but each to there own.

So...same carrier but drill holes inside for circular adjustment screws?
Square light set on EB for £300!

Round headlights will not fit on square headlight mounts. Round and square don't go and that's before we get into the positions of the adjusting clips etc etc
You need the round headlights AND the mounting brackets.
Unscrew square headlights (keep in box for when you realise round look worse and give inferior light
)
Fix round headlights to the van using the outer screw positions that were used on the square set-up
Drill holes at the other side of the mounting bracket and screw on.
Fit round headlight grill using 3 out of the 5 screws as your van will be missing the mounting tab needed for screw positions 2 and 4
See here for what the headlights and mounts look like

Re: Square headlights to round..easy fit?
Thanks Cruz!
Whew missed out on those for a nice price! See exactly what you mean.
I'm not at all sold on the round headlight thing but the BIG problem is locating a replacement for the corroded drivers side outer rectangular light to complete my present setup. I even telephoned Germany (as advised by VW) and they said that there was so much interest in these lights that they were working with Hella to get some manufactured...couldn't promise anything but there is obviously a market out there.
Anyway, passed the MOT today so got some time before I HAVE to do anything.
Cheers

Re: Square headlights to round..easy fit?
I am not surprised VW want to get there hands on the lucre that is being thrown around on fleabay for RHD sqyare headlights. With prices around £250 for a good set who wouldn't
I am sure they were about £70 when VW still had them
Change to round but keep your eye on any news about the square headlight remanufacture when of if they become available.
If they do they will be sold direct from Germany through http://www.vw-classic.net/bestand/besta ... pl?lang=en" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
Just search for the part number for RHD square headlights
