Fridge help – my beers getting warm!

Post by uniB »

We're in a campsite in Cornwall and I can't get the Electrolux RM122 fridge to work on gas and I'm wondering...

When I refitted it a few weeks ago I used the old flue fitting on the outside of the van which has a rubber cover over the end of the flue which is sort of hinged at the top. Looking at the instructions for hte fridge which I downloaded from the forum it looks like it shouldn't have a rubber cover other than the outside protecting cover – could this be why I've been lying on the floor swearing at it for the last 20 minutes??

sorry thats not the problem the flaps stops insects crawling down the pipe.

you could have dislodged debris that has fallen into the combustion box and covered the gas jet/burner.
this will mean removing the fridge again and cleaning out the burner box.

Is it manual ignition? when you look at it and it trys to light either button pressing or other do you get a spark and do you get a flash of gas burning and then nothing more,
have you ever had it running on gas prior and since refitting

It's best to go through this methodically....

#1... When you fitted it, did you test it after ?

#2...You havn't switched something off or run out of gas have you  .To be sure disconnect the reg and shake the bottle, For all you know unless you checked it, the suppliers may have given you an almost empty bottle by mistake.(always easier to blame someone else)

#3...Does the cooker work ok on full gas both burners?. If so then the above is more than likley not your problem.

#4...is it electon or manual ignition?

#5...Is it sparking, can you hear or see a spark?

#6...Can you see a flame and is it staying alight ?

#7...is it lighting and then going out?

look at that, all up at 1am offering service, wish there was a beer in it though,
Doug, the flap may stop creepie crawlies but its more meant and does stop draught blowing down the flue

Thanks chaps, glad to see there's help for a man with warm beer  (I went on to the wine so it's not all doom and gloom)!

It's running, or s'posed to be, from the lpg leisure tank. I haven't used it on gas but Steve at Gasure said it worked OK when he did the conversion.

The hob works fine and that runs from the same tank, so it must be getting the gas supply OK. I get a spark, I can see it in the little window, a copuple of times it looks like there might be a bit of an ignition but only for a really short time then nothing, just the ignition spark again when I press the ignition button.

It sounds like lack of gas rather than lack of spark becuase you say sometimes there seems to be ignition. I know from experience that you must have done this 100 times now, and if it was going to light then it would have already.
you are keeping the gas button pushed in all the time aren't you? (even 5 seconds after ignition)
And you are sure there is nothing between the cooker and fridge supply?

It's no fun, curld up next to the porta potti, head stuck on the floor looking into that stupid little window

I am indeed holding the gas button in – held in continually, and it is at number 3, although I've tried it all over the place as well! I don't see 'puffs' just hte little spark of the ignition, although I might have seen an orange puff of flame a couple of times, although that might have just been lack of oxogen to the head sending me doolally due to the position I was lying in!!

There's a manifold after the leisure tank with 3 pipes coming from it, one to hob, one to fridge and one to the Propex. It's just pipe all the way to the fridge after that.

Have you tried ringing Steve at Gasure, just incase you're missing anything simple that he can talk you through ? If he said it worked ok he might be able to help. Good luck, nothing worse than a warm beer !
What a long strange trip it's been

It sounds like a blocked jet.
Have you filled the gastank yourself since you had it and if so did you have everything in the off position?
Try holding the gas button in for five seconds before pressing the ignitor.

As Andi says ring Gassure and see if he can help you.

Thanks guys,

I have filled up with LPG, things were off at hte manifold but I didn't turn the leisure tank off, is that bad??

I'll see if Steve can help.

It does work when driving so I could always drive round for an hour or two to cool the beer down!!

Always switch the tank off otherwise all sorts of crap can be blown into the gas lines, its pumped in at such a high pressure.
I always light my cooker before using the fridge too so that if any crap has got through it will block one of the rings rather than the fridge.
