Slide out bedroom at rear?

Post by meggles »

OK, this is about a T4 but same applies to anything with rear doors!
Is it possible to get/make a slide out rear bedroom area? I was thinking along the lines of similar to the side slide out bedrooms in more expensive, biiger motorhomes. Something like a box section of ply, fibre glass etc which pulls out when you get to a campsite and slides back in when you want to drive away.
Also: I THINK you can get a rear awning for a T25 and a T4 which is similar to a side awning but is clear of the floor. Have I been dreaming or have I seen something like this?

I've seen a T4 with a complete pull out section that slides out through the tail gate. The only problem is I can't remeber if I saw it at a show, on the web or in a mag! I've done a google image search but no luck so I'll have a look through my old back issues. If I can find it I'll scan it and post it. But it does exist! :ok

As you'd presumably need sides to it, wouldn't this make the rear side windows closed off in terms of rear view?

It wouldn't be any different to driving a panel van or you just have matching windows in the extension.

The slide out section on the T4 I saw was a bedroom area. So must have extended by 6 foot or so. Also had a clip around shower curtain on the tailgate.

Yes, that sounds like it! The idea is to be able to get up and move around, cook etc whilst SWMBO has a lie in. Or for grandkids to have a bit of room on those rare ( ) wet summer days!!
