buying spare bulbs for trip to france
Hello
Apparantly we need to get spare light bulbs for the van for our trip to France. Halfords has loads of different ones and I don't know which are right!
Any ideas or directs to the specs would be welcome!
cheers

As it takes such little time to remove a lens and the bulb, you may as well just pop them out in the car park and get spares to match. I long ago switched to LED equivalents for longer life and low power consumption - thats another route you might consider. Loads on eBay.

Re: buying spare bulbs for trip to france
Bulb kits are like gaskets sets
.......the kit contains some of what you need, a few are completely wrong and there are always one or two that are just not included.
My recommendation would be to make up your own kit.
More of what commonly blows ie: 21watt single fillament large bayonet for indicators/reverse/fog and brake lights.
The 5 watt large bayonet for the rear side lights.
etc, etc.
And then there are those bulbs that they don't seem to include in the kits ie: inner full beam Halogen H3 I think? on a California.
I would say Include more of the common fuse sizes ie: 10 and 15 amp but you will only need a couple of 20 and 30 amp jobs.
Kits look good but are carp if they are not complete.
Just pull out those you are not sure about ie: front indicators and inner headlamps and go to somewhere like GSF or Euro Car Parts for the seperate bulbs.

tail light ones should be the rarer 10 watt variety.. I doubt halfrauds will have them...
Fluro jacket for EVERY person in the vehicle.... its the law and not stuffed out of the way, MUST be able to get it from your seat...
Fire extinguisher..
Warning triangle
first aid kit...
Bulbs (as suggested make up your own kit from local auto electricians)
Must have vehicle documents too...

What about a warning on the bike rack?
Noticed loads of these last time we went to france on Motorhomes, we never had a problem though.

How did I know you were going to do that!

But I have to agree, 10 watt bulbs are better, 5 watters are so dim.

Re: buying spare bulbs for trip to france
Hi There,
The Michelin Euro Touring Atlas has a great table at the front which shows what you need to have (by law) and what is recommended, per country.
We're off to Europe in September so we're going through the same stuff and check lists! We got all out stuff, including spare bulb kit from Just Kampers as they specialise in this stuff - so one would hope its the right bulb kit! http://www.justkampers.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I don't usually rate AA books but this one has been really helpful as details all the documentation you need to actually carry on you, including both parts of your driving licence as well as the V5!
: http://www.amazon.co.uk/European-Driver ... 720&sr=8-1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Also gives usful info per country.
Hope that helps!
