Evening folks,
I have just had a Stainless Steel exhaust fitted to replace my early style exhaust which had started to sound a bit "sporty" was prone to back-firing which was a laugh!
Anyway, the new exhaust has silencer straps, but no hanger/cradle for the silencer, which I was advised by the exhaust manufacturer is required to support the silencer.
I've looked every were on the net for somewere to buy this item, or even a picture so I would know what I was looking for, but had no luck.
Does anybody know were I could order this item, or even have a picture of one so I could fabricate one?
Any advice would be really appreciated as the new exhaust was in preparation for our holidays which start this weekend.......
Great forum by the way, I just don't often get the opportunity to post anything!
Cheers
Oliver

Re: Silencer in need of support?

the brackets are fitted OE VW for late (post 86) systems.
They attach to the engine carrier which differs from the early type in that they have locating stubs for the carriers
they require the silencer heat shroud that has cut away for these brackets, however you can modify the older type.
now obsolete from VW... your best bet is a breaker.

Re: Silencer in need of support?
Trouble is, you will prob need the "later" style engine mount (cast alloy part) that has the bracket mounts on it too... But its poss to fabricate something up to take the weight...

Hmm, this is growing arms and legs! Still, it'll be worth the hassle to have the nice new exhaust well supported so it won't shear.
As you said, do it right, do it once - my Aiden Talbot gearbox rebuild three years ago has been worth every penny.
