horn ring knackered

Post by skell »

I've got intermittent horn problem (of the horn works when driving in a straight line but not when cornering nature). Took steering wheel off and found brass ring on steering wheel is knackered - where can I get one of these, do VW still do them, does anyone do them cheaper? I also found the contact on the steering column side that touches the brass ring is worn through in parts - can I get them from VW? or do I need to call CJ?

chaeck also the wiring contact further down the steering colum, my wire was broken there and the horn worked when the wires connected when driving straight, but not when cornering when the wires moved further round the column.

Hi Skell,as it happens had the same prob. When i took the steering wheel off there were alot of bits of the brass swarf from the wearing down process. I cleaned all this off and it seamed to sort the problem. As for the ring try getting another wheel off a breaker and swap the whole thing!!!

Modify your horn to a push-button on the dash (like mine), saves a lot of hassle, and it complies with MOT requirements.
