this is just gettin stupid now
ok as some of you may have read i have been havin loads of problems with runnin my van
and after many new parts i finally ditched the shiny new dells for a pair of orig solex`s
so we got them on wired them up and it started a small smile came on my face
thinking at least i will be able to use it
the smile lasted about 15 mins when the engine decide to die again and not start
ther is fuel there it has had 2 electronic fuel pumps, two fuel regulators, new coil, two ignition modulators, new leads, new plugs, new dizzy cap,new rotor arm
two sets of carbs the only thing that hasn`t beeen changed is the dizzy it`s self
so what is an equivelent dizzy and where do i get them from

There maybe fuel there but is there enough? Im guessing you have done the basics like changing the fuel filter, but you don't mention it ...
Mmm what's that strange smell from my exhaust...

As above, Id want to have fuel pumping out into a bucket (MINE)
just to make sure I had propper flow, had a van(astra) that had a piece of carp from a jerry can half blocking the pick up in the tank, just a thought and a cost free item to check

Re: this is just gettin stupid now
it`s had a new fuel tank and has the malpassi fuel reg/filter fitted

same as that but without the pressure gauge i have a seperate gauge is swet at 3psi
we have now ruled out the fuel being the problem as there is fuel going into the carb and it has had 2 different fuel pumps
all new fuel line from the tank upwards so every inch of line is new

Re: this is just gettin stupid now
Does it just die (electric) or does it splutter and die (fuel)? When it dies do you get a spark from the coil when you crank it over? Does it re start when cooled down?
I had a similar problem at Bashtie and ended up rewiring the loom and replacing the hall sensor in the distributor.
It would cut out and I'd get zero spark from the coil. I'd wiggle the connector where the loom goes into the hall sensor on the side of the dizzy and it would work temporarily, usually well enough to get me home. Cant really think of anything else you haven't tried. Whatever you do dont replace the dizzy with a Bosch 009 unit. They are wrong for the T25. A new hall sensor sorted it.
Available from VW, part number 035998065

Re: this is just gettin stupid now
wouldn`t idle properly if you kept it at the same revs it would slowly creep down rev it and it was fine
then it just died and wouldn`t start again gonna try a few things tonight
managed to borrow a dizzy and ingnition module of a m8

Re: this is just gettin stupid now
The symptoms would suggest more a fuel/ air problem than an electrical one though.
Fingers crossed for you, I know how frustrating these things are.

I hear what your saying, fuel at 3 psi, low but .... how much flow have you got, the pump will have a spec,ie ltr / min
make sure it is giving this, then look elsewhere

Re: this is just gettin stupid now
It never made it to the rolling road then?
Again, its back to basics... as said.. is enough fuel getting through.. are the float hights in the carbs set properly.. are the "stop" solenoids working properly or failing when hot?
Sparks actually getting through.. (traced from signal to coil all the way to plugs?)
Changed rotor arm as suggested before? as I have seen a couple that fail when warmed up... work fine again when cool...
Need to swap one component at a time for a know good one.. try the amp first then dizzy..
I think I asked before if the idle stabilisation unit was still plugged in or not.. remove it and plug the ends together...

rolling road didn`t even make it off the drive
there are now a pair of solex`s on that have been on an engine on rolling road

Re: this is just gettin stupid now
have you checked that the breathers under the wheel arches are still there and plumbed up properly, does it hiss when you take the petrol cap off....just a thought...
if you suspect the dizzy, is it seated properly
have you checked the full length of the fuel line to make sure that there is only 1 filter...ive seen them fitted in about 3 different places. there should only be one near the tank outlet.
if its a faulty lead or dizzy cap this can be made worse when the engine gets hot and everything expands...ie cracks etc

Re: this is just gettin stupid now
Umgum I think from what I can glean this is an ongoing issue, you have to go back to square one and do as has been suggested, the basics, and work from there, could you tell me what the actual flow rate of fuel you managed to pump?
