Stailess Steel exhausts

Post by crazydiamond »

Just been looking around and tried Bluebird Customs www.bluebird-type2.co.uk/ Good choice even for 1.9/2.1 water cooled £475 inc p and p

I had one of their header single glasspack mild steel ones a few years ago, it fitted dead easy but was very loud. Now fancy a quiet pack ss system on the 2 litre aircooler. Anyone tried one, does it muck up the low down torque? Not looking for huge differences, but mine feels strangled at higher revs, with a standard very restrictive system. thats not very quiet anyway.

Nearly bought a mild steel single quiet pack Empi system off fleabay on Sunday, but the price went higher than I was prepared to pay (I dont need one that urgently as mine isnt even rusty yet) Maybe have to wait a little for this buy, I was really after a little tech info on a merged 4 into 1 system with very long primaries, ( Clive this is your area of expertease isnt it?) I hope that even though it has long primaries, the quiet pack would give sufficient back pressure to compensate in the low rpm area? Any thoughts?

I've just bought this for my 1.9 wasserboxer. It looks fantastic - I'll be getting my garage to fit it in a couple of weeks. Then they can take the blame if a bolt shears off...

Be aware that the downpipe from the offside manifold doesn't have the heat jacket for the air filter hot air pickup. Other posters here advised me that this didn't matter, see here: http://www.club80-90.co.uk/forum/viewto ... highlight=

You may also need to buy:

1. Cast elbow joint which joins the offside and nearside pipes before they go to the silencer box.

2. Big olive which joins the pipe from the silencer box to that cast elbow joint.

3. All gaskets (though Bluebird might throw them in for you).

4. All nuts and bolts.

JustKampers do 1. (£36) and also 2-4 (£19) in a fitting kit. I would post links to JK but it's down at the moment.

Good luck with the new one Pootle, its a lot different to my 2 litre Aircooled, but interested in how good the quality is.
