Hi Guys
Hope you are all enjoying weather!
I had some problems yesterday with my T25 2ltr Air-cooled (1981).
It started struggling under acceleration like it was being suffocated, could this have been fuel vaporisng in this heat, I had just filled up with Tesco fuel
and then parked up for 30 mins. When I started up it strarted struggling.
I decided to change plugs points Dizzy cap condensor and leads.
Problems are:-
The plugs I was given by GSF are W8CC's, when I removed the ones in the bus they are B6HS which have a different thread length.
Can I cause damage if I use the W8cc's???
Also can someone tell me which leads go to which cylinder so I can double check they are in correct order as I may have got them muddled in my hastey
removal of old dizzy cap. Doh!!
Cheers guys!

Re: Plugs and leads
Aren't W8CC short-reach beetle plugs? My memory is not so good.

Re: Plugs and leads
Not sure what they are for, but the thread is a lot longer on the w8cc plugs than the B6HS that I took out.
German and fiendish bloke was not overly interested when I explained these were different.
Will try and get some correct ones at Camper Jam tomorrow.

Re: Plugs and leads
According to my information all the 2litre air cooled motors (CU & CV code) used long reach Bosch W8CC spark plugs.
Those NGK B6HS are short reach.
It should be pretty easy to tell which you need as the plugs are designed to fit flush with just the electrode protruding inside the combustion chamber. Therefore, if your old plug threads are shorter than the threads in the cylinder head they are wrong. You may need a small mirror and torch to see clearly.
This may account for poor running as the spark would have been occuring 1cm up the thread...NOT IDEAL lol.

Re: Plugs and leads
Cheers for that RedWestie
I will have to have a closer look, I bought the bus only recently and the plugs it is running were in it when I bought it.
I am worried that the longer reach ones could cause damage.
What do I need to look for to check is it the thread length in the head equal to the thread on the spark plug?
Cheers Jay

Re: Plugs and leads
I suppose you could use a tooth pick to place down the hole to gauge the thread length, then place it next to the spark plugs threads, as I said, they should be the same.
Obviously you wouldn't want to be fitting long reach plugs into short reach threads as the spark plugs would protrude by 10mm plus and probably catch the pistons.....
But as I say....Bosch W8CC are listed as correct.

Re: Plugs and leads
hi mate, leads...
the firing order is 1 4 3 2 .....if you look at the engine the leads SHOULD cross on the right hand side - numbers 1 and 2 (if your dizzy is 100% spot on). Lots of info if you search firing order. Some good diagrams that Kevtherev puts up as well.

Re: Plugs and leads
I had the same problem when i 1st got my old van. The plugs i took out were about 10mm shorter. I put 1 new, longer plug in and rolled the van in gear on the drive to see if i got contact.
The 4 longer plugs cured poor tick over instantly and the pull up hills was far better
