Red flashing light with temperature symbol ?

Post by kit »

Anyone know what the red flashing light on the dashboard is for, I wait until it stops flashing and then the glow plugs are ready (1.6 Diesel) for starting as the glow plug light has never worked. However it has started flashing when the engine is hot and I wondered what it was meant to do?

Are you referring to the one in the temp gauge? If so, its telling you that you need to check the coolant level and/or your coolant temperature is too high. Immediate attention required if it starts to flash while you are driving!

Ok thanks, next question. to get the light to go off and the temperature gauge to drop I turn on the heater and every thing runs normal, does this point to Radiator blockage or water pump weak ( as it is a bit rumbly), water level is ok as well?

Is it worth a rad flush first or should I just bite the bullet and fit a pump?

That could be signs of a failing head gasket.
You should get it sniffed by someone.
There is a sniff test that can tell if combustion fumes/gas is getting into the cooling system.

Mine had the same flashing problems, it was the head.
