Nightmare!

Post by albertramsbottom »

We have had our van in with Elite VW for a recon engine. 7 weeks later we get a call yesterday from Mick. The call is not good news, apparently they reconed our old engine and fitted it but the oil light is still flickering at idle.

Oil pressure is at 10psi when running which shouldnt trigger the oil light. Now they are suggesting that they might have to take it back out. "pooh", what could be wrong with it?

They have fitted new pistons, barrels, rings, gaskets, main bearings and a new head. To be fair to Elite VW Mick has said that he is not going to realese the van until its perfect, which I really aphreciate.

Just gutted that I now might miss Camperjam

Any suggestions would be great, I know that they know there stuff but I have seen posts on this forum about similar problems, with advice saying to just ignore it

Cheers

Flipping heck mate. Your not having much luck with that van are you... :(

Soz but don't know what would cause this but like you say, at least they are going to put it right for you which is the main thing...

If it's any consolation, our bus is off the road again after we broke now on the M5 at Bristol (yes, Bristol, yet again) last weekend coming back from Brean. :( Massive loss of power intermittently, misfiring like you would not believe, then clears itself.
RAC man said it is an ignition problem as he could see spark 'collapsing' but as intermittment, could not pinpoint or fix so back on the trailer again much to the amusement of all our neighbours

Suspect it may be ignition amplifier but might get an auto-electrician to come out and have a look before I fork out more money.

As quick as you fix one thing.... :D

Did you get a new crank? If you fit new main/shell bearings to a crank that can hive low oil pressure.

It may not be enough to cause big end knocking or piston slip but can some times be the case.

Personally I'd go for a weak prv(pressure refief valve)P
