Engine movement???
Since I've had my 2.1 Carravelle the engine has always felt like the mounts needed doing. I get a kind of shunting from the rear end and I can feel movement through the gearstick. I bought four new engine mounts from brickwerks and a new gearbox mount (gearbox mount cost a foutune!). Since fitting the new mounts the shunting / juddering is slightly better, but not a lot and I can still feel movement through the gearstick.
I checked yesterday and I can rock the engine by hand!?? Surely I shouldn't be able to do that?? Any ideas.

Re: Engine movement???
If you can rock the engine more than an inch the mounts need changing.
They are available from brickwerks or GSF
removal of the carrier bar is best for ease of fitting
so the engine would have to be supported with a stable jack

if you have replaced all the mounts and its still doing it, something else must be loose.....
when does it do this "juddering", are you sure its not clutch judder?

Re: Engine movement???
I'll double check the tightness of the rear mounts today, I had those done by my garage as I didn't have time. Gearbox I know is fine I changed that myself a couple of weeks ago.
Pretty sure it's not clutch judder?? Any good tests?
I can rock the engine by hand quite a bit.

Re: Engine movement???
Right I can see quite a bit of movement on the engine mounts. I can rock the engine about an inch in either direction. All the bolts are one up tight. Could I have a duff set?
I got my brother to drive the van yesterday, and with me in the back looking into the engine bay the engine moves / rocks between gear change (front to back) This must be what I'm feeling through the gear stick. I know an engine should have some movement, but it's unplesant to drive at the mo and I'm worried about the amount of clutch slipping I'm doing to make the drive more comfy.
Anyone know of ay poly mounts available?

Naughty Kev - you've been told off for once already for not reading - read the post again - he has a new gearbox mount.

Small not magnetic, should it be? I still have the oil so I could put it through a sive....... Don't tell me there's some possible horror just round the corner.

No, Aidan just likes to frighten you
Seriously though, I think he's trying to ascertain if the box itself is causing so much movement.
My engine doesn't rock much: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8bvi6VuJS0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Engine movement???
Damn! Frightening is usualy my trick
Just been for a bit of a crawl under the van and have noticed a small oil leak around the area where the box mates to the engine. Maybe related?
