Hi Folks,
I'm just replacing my fuel pump, which is one of the ones that doesn't properly because of the pipe snagging with one from Brickwerks. Having taken the old one off I've discovered that the gasket which is on there, an original VW one, is totally different to the one supplied with the new pump. The one on the van just has a small hole with a pin thourgh it, the new one is more open. Is it OK to remove the old gasket and replace it with the new one – this won't cause and problem will it??
Or should I just stick with the gasket that's on there?

Re: Fuel pump gasket help!
There are 2 different gaskets. One fits between the pump & the pedestal. The other fits between the pedestal & the mounting on the engine. Both these gaskets are available from Just Kampers.

Re: Fuel pump gasket help!
Or for that matter anyone who even stocks beetle parts as the gaskets are common to both. However, for your purposes the gasket supplied should actually be fine to use. If you're at all; concerned, just make one out of thick paper or stiff card. Just lay the card over the face needing the gasket and press down around the edges and holes which will leave a nice imprint of the card on the reverse which you can cut round with a small craft knife.

Thanks chaps, I decided to stick with the gasket that was on there and all seems fine, apart from it now seems to cut out when the engine is cold – didn't do that before the change
Oh well, going to the garage tomorrow so they can sort it out!
